Vinyasa

Most of our classes are taught in the Vinyasa style, which means flow. This Vinyasa style blends the ancient wisdom of many yogic traditions including Ashtanga, Iyengar and Traditional Hatha into a new expression. This well-balanced practice combines hard work with deep relaxation to build core strength, flexibility, concentration and a sense of serenity. This class is taught at several different levels.

Beginning, Level 2 and Advanced Levels offered at Samadhi Center for Yoga.

  • Beginning: Appropriate for those new to yoga and those who seek a slower paced practice. No experience or flexibility required.
  • Level 2 (Intermediate): Previous yoga experience is strongly recommended.
  • Level 2-3 (Advanced): Seasoned practitioners only please. Not suitable for beginners.

Ashtanga
Ashtanga yoga is a fast-paced, highly aerobic style of yoga which follows the teachings of the great sage Patanjali’s eightfold path. Pattabhi Jois, who was a student of Krishnamacharya, developed a series of poses based on purifying practices described in ancient texts. These series of poses energize the body and mind and challenge the practitioner on a deep level.

Pilates
Pilates is a full body-conditioning program that focuses on building a healthy, injury-free body by encouraging controlled and concentrated movement. It centers the body with breathing awareness while maintaining dynamic spiral stabilization. The rhythmic exercises promote elongated and toned muscles, and are noted for developing abdomen, lower back and buttocks strength, promoting a strong body core. People of all ages can use Pilates for their general fitness or cross training with other sports, dance and exercise regimes to greatly improve their performance. All levels are welcome to attend this valuable class!

Beginning
You will work with beginning level asanas (poses), pranayama and yogic philosophy. Emphasis is on easing tension and increasing flexibility and clarity with breath and movement. Learn how to create a healthy foundation for your practice to flower. All level yogis who seek a slower paced practice are welcome in this beginning class. No experience or flexibility required.

Mommy and Me Yoga
Bliss for new mommies (and daddies) and babies…movement, breath and bonding for you and your little one! Revitalize, refresh and renew yourself as you introduce your sweetie to the soothing nature of yoga. Spend quality time with your babe and connect with other new parents. Please bring anything that soothes your baby such as a favorite blanket, toy or a pacifier. This class is appropriate for beginners to the advanced toe-sucking baby!

Hot Hatha
Unlike Bikram yoga where you practice the same 26 poses in every class, you are led through an asana practice that is creative and new every time in Hot Hatha. The warm room (about 85 degrees) and challenging practice helps to soften the muscles and detoxify the body through mindful respiration and perspiration. Open your heart, mind and soul in this free form hatha class. Some yoga experience strongly recommended.

Iyengar
Your teacher, Kevin Durkin stays true to the purity of B.K.S Iyengar’s original teachings which focus on alignment of the body and use of the breath. Kevin’s 27 years of experience help us create harmony in body and mind through yoga. Through this systemized positioning of the body, each individual part functions at its best potential which is important for a healthy foundation in all asana practices. Iyengar yoga has proven a powerful tool in therapeutic application from serious back injuries to osteoarthritis, depression and menopause. Body and mind are stretched beyond their normal limits and a sense of meditation and inner peace is obtained.

Kundalini Yoga
Kundalini Yoga focuses on awakening the living energy that rests dormant in the base of the spine. Elevate yourself through the use of very specific asanas, pranayama, mantra and meditation. Some yoga experience recommended.

Prenatal Yoga
In Prenatal Yoga you will learn skills to help you feel more comfortable during pregnancy and skills to help you move through labor and birth with more ease and awareness. This nurturing class is for women of all yogic levels in their childbearing year.

Yoga Sadhana
In Sanskrit, Yoga means "union" and Sadhana translates as "means of realization". This class introduces traditional methods of pranayama, meditation and philosophy. Advanced and beginning students alike will benifit. Offered on a donation basis.
